Hey…..if you’ve been thinking about havin’ some REAL FUN with a Mototcycle, then BUY MY NEATO SIDECAR RIG... |

|
1976 Honda Gold Wing 1000cc Motorcycle 1973 Simon Mark 3 Sport Sidecar |
|
This is a well known Southern California sidecar rig built for and continuously owned by Jere and Annie Young since 1973. This hand laid-up Sport-Touring Simon MK 3 Sidecar (Serial Number 3/005) was purchased through Pasadena Honda then installed personally by Gerry Simon in his Los Angeles shop on Jere’s 1973 500cc four cylinder Honda. It features an independent suspension & weighs in at 106 lbs. It was later transferred to their 750 4 cylinder Honda and, within a year was re-installed on their brand new 1000cc Honda Gold Wing.
After Annie painfully discovered exactly why the Vetter Fairings were aptly named ‘Windjammer’, a new concept fairing named ‘JACWAL’ was fitted up as well as a Rack Factory gold anodized luggage rack with teakwood inserts and the bike has remained basically the same since that time.
After a shake-down cruise to Annie’s hometown, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, this rig was put into everyday service and has, over the years, won many show trophies, attended almost all of Doug Bingham’s Griffith Park Sidecar Rallies, appeared in many civic events and community parades around SoCal and has been featured in many many magazine articles due to its truly headturning appearance!

As any sidecarist can tell you, driving one of these rigs is not at all like driving a two wheeler. Unless you are willing to wave back at all the folks, young and old, who smile and wave, unless you can take the time to let complete strangers take a few snapshots (and some of them won’t be able to speak English…), unless you hate children and think that giving a friendly wave and smiling is distasteful, unless you hate to get the ‘Thumbs Up’ signal from teen aged boys and friendly smiling waves from teen aged girls and unless you can cheerfully reply to the many requests for a ride…... then you probably shouldn’t own a sidecar—period!
My rig could use some fresh paint and a little fiberglass work but she’s still pretty slick for a thirty-five year old outfit. She still gets lots of looks, waves, and requests for photos and rides and she is just as much fun to drive as she was in 1973 ! ….Maybe even more!
How about some details…….The engine, clutch and tranny has only 12,000 approximate miles. I also replaced the speedo a short time ago when the trip-odometer dropped into the speedo-cluster.—— bike runs real good, haven’t tuned it up lately, doesn’t seem to be suffering—— front forks will be receiving new seals soon….by the way, the forks also have heavy progressive springs as the OEM were too light. Air shocks in back and on sidecar...the flat tread rear tire is mounted on a Honda Comstar wheel, (rear side-car wheels can sometimes snap spokes due to side stresses on hard turns)...gas mileage not spectacular but OK…. Sidecar disc brake not needed with this GL1000 as it has three good sized disc brakes on the bike…
SPARE PARTS AND MISCELLANEOUS ‘STUFF’ included: boxes of spare parts, mufflers unit, many electronic parts, original rear spoke wheel, spare radiator assembly, four carburetor assembly, front fork assembly, some plastic body parts, front and rear master cylinders, sidecar master cylinder, brake discs, some tires...a box or so of miscellaneous parts, Honda Motorcycle Shop Manual, Clear vinyl tonneau ’show’ cover, and lots lots more!,
ALSO...file on JACWAL fairings (many reviews– magazine articles, etc.), file on GL1000—remember this was amazing state-of-the-art motorcycle in 1976—includes reviews, magazine articles, etc., sidecar file includes copies of sidecar articles and sidecarist magazines….. You getting the picture…..?????
YOU’LL GET IT ALL !
Because of the ‘Collector’s Item’ status of this rig, the fairing, and the sidecar, I think this really one-of-a-kind unit is worth a lot of money (I freely admit to having a little bias here) …..but I’ll let it all go for only $7,500.00 to the right party. Oh, think that’s too much? If you’re interested in making an extremely generous offer, we should talk — maybe we can make us a deal ! |
